Who we are

Grand Theatre Groningen creates and presents performances and concerts. Sharp and sensitive. Worldwide, from the heart of Groningen.

Grand Theatre Groningen seeks, scouts and stimulates, with the goal of providing time, space and support to often still unknown ambitious performing artists in elaborating and intensifying their plans. This invariably results in exciting and inspiring shows and concerts, provocative where need be, right up to date with current developments.

The marvellous theatre on the Grote Markt in the centre of Groningen has been working to win over a much larger and broader public. Interesting city initiatives, young entrepreneurs and programme-makers are given scope to realize their ideas, working alongside residential companies such as Het Houten Huis, Club Guy & Roni and De Jongens, and festivals such as Eurosonic/Noorderslag, Noorderzon and Jonge Harten.

Accessibility for non Dutch-speakers

A considerable number of performances is also suitable for non Dutch-speakers, either because they have little or no text or because they are in English. Obviously, there is no language barrier when it comes to concerts. If you would like to know whether a particular performance is interesting for you, please do not hesitate to contact us. We can also offer suggestions with regard to performances that are particularly suitable for foreign speakers.

Concessions

In the Grand Theatre the usual concessions apply, e.g. by "CJP" pass and the "Stadjers" pass. Students enjoy a concession on presentation of their "OV Student's Card". In that case the entrance fee is usually € 12,50. Art students are charged a special concession rate, they pay € 7,- for a ticket. This goes for students of the Minerva Art Academy, the Frank Mohr Institute, the "Conservatorium" School of Music, and the Art, Culture and Media Course in Groningen University, amongst others.

Location

The Grand Theatre is located in the city centre of Groningen, on Grote Markt. The best way to get to the theatre is by bicycle or on foot. It is approximately a 15 minutes' walk from the main railway station – follow the signs "Grote Markt/VVV". Local buses stopping at Grote Markt are number 3 (for Lewenborg), number 5 (for Paddepoel), number 6 (for Beijum) and number 11 (for Zernike).

Information on parking: VVV Groningen. For a route description use one of the route planners on the internet. You will find an up-to-the-minute route on ANWB routeplanner. This route will refer you to the nearest multi-storey car park. A route description that will take you to the front door of the theatre, is on the page with the technische informatie of the Grand Theatre.
