We can also offer suggestions with regard to performances that are particularly suitable for foreign speakers.

In that case the entrance fee is usually € 12,50. Art students are charged a special concession rate, they pay € 7,- for a ticket. This goes for students of the Minerva Art Academy, the Frank Mohr Institute, the "Conservatorium" School of Music, and the Art, Culture and Media Course in Groningen University, amongst others.

Location

The Grand Theatre is located in the city centre of Groningen, on Grote Markt. The best way to get to the theatre is by bicycle or on foot. It is approximately a 15 minutes' walk from the main railway station – follow the signs "Grote Markt/VVV". Local buses stopping at Grote Markt are number 3 (for Lewenborg), number 5 (for Paddepoel), number 6 (for Beijum) and number 11 (for Zernike).

Information on parking: VVV Groningen. For a route description use one of the route planners on the internet. You will find an up-to-the-minute route on ANWB routeplanner. This route will refer you to the nearest multi-storey car park. A route description that will take you to the front door of the theatre, is on the page with the technische informatie of the Grand Theatre.

Theatrical producer

Grand Theatre Groningen produces and presents theatre, dance and music performances. This means that we assist theatre makers in realizing their ideas. We provide an expert technical crew, offer artistic support and excellent rehearsal space. If required, we design the lighting plan or build the scenery. If a performance goes on a tour in this country or abroad, Grand Theatre Groningen arranges all things that enter into this: the tour and accommodation of the makers, contacts with a view to guest performances, transport of the pieces of scenery, publicity etc. For us, the development of the theatre maker and the performance is the main thing at all times. Each year Grand Theatre Groningen (co)produces around fifteen performances. You will find a survey of our current productions here. Apart from a few exceptions, all of them can be seen in our own theatre once or more often. A number of productions are so successful that they go on a national or international tour.

Wonderful premises

The Grand Theatre on Grote Markt in Groningen accommodates one of the finest flat floor theatres in this country. The magnificent ground floor hall holds great attraction for theatre makers from all over the world because of its many opportunities. The Grand Theatre was built in 1929 as a cinema, but went bankrupt in 1977 and had to close its doors. After it had remained unoccupied for some years, the action group 'Ruimte voor Kultuur' ("Room for Culture") decided to break into the premises with the intention of squatting. The festive reopening of the Grand Theatre - as a theatre – took place in May 1980.
