      Blackbird - Rebirth

    • language no problem
  • People have died and their death was gruesome. Blackbird – Rebirth was inspired by the brutal murder of Dutch actress Linda Olthof and her six-year-old son Jimmy, in New York in 2018.

In an interdisciplinary performance, theatre maker Hendrik Aerts, together with violinist Diamanda Dramm, gives voice to both the dead and those they left behind. It’s not just the mourners who learn to say farewell, but also those who died. What ensues is a rollercoaster ride jolting through anger and sadness, in a quest for solace and opportunities. Blackbird – Rebirth is a performance about loss, being left behind and starting anew.

The performance is highly visual in nature, using poetry to transport the audience to their own imagination and remembrance. Words, images, sounds, light, music, dance and the body merge into emotionally comprehensible theatrical expression. The composition for violin, vocals and computer was created especially for Blackbird – Rebirth and is performed live.

  • Let's get personal
  • In February, Grand Theatre will be inviting theatre makers who do dare to expose themselves and share their deepest thoughts with us. They turn their personal story into a universal one, and in so doing say something about the world we share.
