Work in Progress: Renacimiento
- language no problem
La tristura is now in the midst of the creative process for their new work, Renacimiento, a Spanish and Belgian co-production with the support by Grand Theatre.
The company is here to concentrate on their last phase of rehearsals, before the premiere of the piece in April, in Madrid, at Teatros del Canal.
Renacimiento is a show built in relation to the imaginary from the last forty years in Spain. A brief history of this democracy.
We see a group of men working, in search of a common objective. During this process, there will be time for cooperation, confrontation, action and contemplation.
These men have only lived a few decades in democracy, theirs is what we could call a teenage democracy, one that is yet to become of legal age. Where is Spain headed now? Nobody can know, not even the most powerful people can be completely sure. That is why the men want to enter a real dialogue, and to propose a different way of doing things, which is a certainty and a responsibility. Because, no matter what they do, they will always change their world.
Renacimiento starts with the presentation of the ending regime, remembering our 1975, and finishes in 2020, trying to have a glimpse into what the present and most immediate future looks like.
Renacimiento is co-produced by Noorderzon and Grand Theatre.
La tristura is one of the most promising Spanish companies right now. They investigate the limits between presentation and representation, showing their interest in contemporary theatre, and create from the intuition that intimacy and poetry essentially are political concepts. Last year they performed at Noorderzon with their show Future Lovers.
