Schubert, Sweelinck, Ligeti en Piazzolla for a small ensemble
- language no problem
The NNO is a tight-knit orchestra, but it also includes a few small ensembles. This means that the repertoire can be expanded with chamber music and pieces for medium-sized ensembles.
In this highly varied program, alternating strings and wind instruments come to the fore. A movement from Franz Schubert’s monumental String Quintet, one of his last and most poignant works, can be heard.
Then wind players make a wonderful journey through time.
In addition to work by the ‘old Dutchman’ Sweelinck and baroque giant Purcell, they play the amusing Bagatelles by twentieth-century György Ligeti, a composer who became famous for his extreme music and unconventional humor. An irresistible ending is a movement from Maria de Buenos Aires by the much loved Astor Piazzolla, the man who brought tango to the concert hall.
