Open Call: Noorderzon and Grand Theatre Groningen invite artists to join ‘CAMPFIRES’

CAMPFIRES is a way to get to know the local (performing arts) context of Groningen during one of the most vibrant moments of the year. Dive into international performing arts festival Noorderzon: visit performances, meet presenting artists and gather around the ‘campfire’ to share interpretations and to discuss. Noorderzon Performing Arts Festival Groningen is the somewhat curious combination of a cutting-edge international art festival and a large-scale summer fest for 135,000 visitors.

Who are we looking for?
Emerging artist establishing their practice since two years, who have
> a curious mindset
> a desire to encounter different perspectives in the performing arts
> the will to talk, reflect and share thoughts about art and practices
> an interest to get to know a new local environment through a performing arts festival
> an interest to build your network in an informal way

From Friday 24th till Tuesday 28th of August you will visit shows by a.o. Bruno Beltrao and Jaha Koo, have group sessions to critically reflect on the performances, visit local institutions like Grand Theatre, NNT and Station Noord and meet their teams. You will be in the caring hands of dramaturg Judith Blankenberg (programmer Grand Theatre) and producer Jonathan Offereins. We look forward to meet you and welcome you in our city, theatre and festival.

We ask you for a contribution of €100*. With that we cover accommodation, tickets for performances, lunch and dinner. You’ll stay 4 nights in shared apartments, with the 24th as day of arrival and the 28th as day of departure.

The deadline is 9am on Friday the 11th of August. Tuesday the 14th of August you will know if we see you in Groningen this year. The selection will be made by Noorderzon and Grand Theatre together.

  1. get away for a weekend from where you are now?

* If you are not able to cover the expenses of the program please explain why and if you are selected we will try and find alternative funding for your participation.

About Noorderzon
Noorderzon Performing Arts Festival Groningen is the somewhat curious combination of a cutting-edge international art festival and a large-scale summer fest for 135,000 visitors, over eleven festival days. Noorderzon The heart of the festival is the idyllic Noorderplantsoen (a city park) where, for eleven summer days, a freely accessible festival village appears almost out of nowhere to provide a setting for theatre, dance, music, literature and visual art in combination with eating, drinking and social encounters. Performances take place in tents or on outdoor stages in the Noorderplantsoen, as well as at many locations in the inner city of Groningen (Noorderzon DownTown). In 2018, Noorderzon celebrates its 28th edition and takes place from the 23rd of August – Sunday the 2nd of September.
